MA Historical Costume
Arts University Bournemouth
This project was based on the novel, Hunger Pangs, which is a queer fantasy romance novel. I was particularly passionate about working on this story because of the incredible disability representation! Joy Demorra, the author, is also disabled and writes the experience so perfectly. I chose to set the story in a fantasy regency era, inspired by Demorra's humerous references to Pride and Prejudice, and I spent a long time looking at historical disability aids, as well as imagining fantastical. This is one of my favourite projects I have ever done, and I am very proud of the final illustrations.

Regency fashion timeline
Autumn Term, 2022
This timeline of regency fashions was a project I did in preparation for working on Hunger Pangs the following term, and shows a rundown of trends and influencing factors on fashion between the years 1800 and 1820. I also did 5 digital illustrations to demonstrate some of these trends in my own work.

Fashioning our World
Salisbury Museum, 2023/24
During the first term of my MA course we worked to design and make garments for mini mannequins, inspired by garments in the museum's collection. These were intended to show ways that we could learn from the fashions of the past to create more sustainable fashion in the future. My design was inspired by a servant's jacket from colonial india which has been discretely patched many times, so I used the mending practices of sashiko and boro to inspire a bolder, brighter, more creative mending style. I wanted this to be easy to learn for young people seeing the exhibit, so the simple running stitches of sashiko were perfect.

Tectonic
May 2022
Tectonic was a devised production for my final term of uni, following the stories of 3 women from different time periods, and their journeys working through generational trauma. Our 3 main characters were inspired by Delia Derbishire, a sound designer in the 1960's, Mary Anning, the first female fossil hunter, and a modern day filmmaker, making a documentary on victims of domestic violence. I designed the costumes in collaboration with Andrie Charlambous, with my focus primarily on the 1800's and modern day.

Eragon
Personal design project (hypothetical)
For my final major project, alongside my work on Tectonic, I produced costume designs for a hypothetical series based on Christopher Paolini's Eragon, which was one of my favourite books from childhood. Given the Norse influences on the fantasy world of this story, I decided to set my designs in the Viking Era

Scenic Art and Prop Making
Academic year 2021/22
During my time at university I've worked as part of the scenic arts team on several productions. Here are some examples of our work.

Tess of the D'Urbervilles
Devizes museum, summer 2022
My designs and design development for Devizes museum's installation about Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles.
I've always been passionate about poetry and literature, and I really felt that Hardy's poetic language was key to understanding and appreciating the story. In order to highlight Hardy's mastery of language, I designed the set and costumes to be made entirely out of paper printed with quotes from the piece. I particularly leaned into the rich imagery of paganism, sacrifice and fate. These designs were chosen to be made into an installation in Devizes museum in summer 2022.
